Suzie Shalosky Obituary, Death – It is with profound sorrow and heavy hearts that we must inform you of the passing of a person who held a very special place in our hearts… Suzie Shalosky was the kindest, funniest, and most gregarious person you would ever have the pleasure of knowing. Whether you were a client, a member of her staff, or a member of her family, she always made sure you knew how important you were to her. It didn’t matter who you were to her; she always made sure you knew how she felt about you. Heaven has gained a wonderful angel, and all of those who knew her will truly miss her. We are going to miss you very much.
Rita May Shalosky, whose maiden name was Murrer, was given the name Murrer when she was born on December 6, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her parents, Marie Hunt Murrer and Herbert Charles Murrer, both passed away before her birth. After a brief bout with illness, Rita died away on April 26, 2022, in the comfort of her own home. She was surrounded by her devoted family at the time of her passing. She attended Sacred Heart Academy and grew up in the city of Cincinnati, Ohio, in the United States. While she was a student at the University of Cincinnati, she became acquainted with the football star William “Bill” Shalosky, who would later become her husband.
After getting married in 1954, Rita and Bill moved around quite a bit due to Bill’s football coaching career, which took them from the University of Cincinnati to Louisiana State University, West Point, and finally to Columbia, where he coached the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. Bill’s career began in Cincinnati, and he went on to coach at West Point and the University of South Carolina. While simultaneously caring for their children Michael and Kathy, Rita supported her husband in his demanding profession. She was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt to many generations of her family. During Bill’s protracted sickness, she provided compassionate care for him for a period of 15 years.
Rita started working with her daughter and son-in-law at their store, Kathy’s Kreations, after Bill died away in 2018. She continued working there until she became unwell in March. She saw her coworkers and customers as extended family and was overjoyed with her “new career.” Rita was a Christian to the core, and her devotion was evident in everything she did. It was her custom to always close a conversation with the words “I love you.” Her loved ones and everyone else who had the privilege of knowing her will suffer a great loss because of her passing.
William Shalosky, Rita’s husband, and H. Scott Murrer, one of Rita’s brothers, both passed away before she did. She is survived by her son, Michael G. Shalosky (and his wife, Susan), her daughter, Kathy J. Hall (and her husband, Craig), her granddaughter, Michael David (and her husband, Miller), her grandsons, William A. Shalosky II and William Patrick Hall (and their wives, Kelly), and her great-granddaughter, Addison Hall. Angela Murrer, her sister-in-law; her nieces Laura Murrer (Greg Jarvis), Linda Murrer (David Greener), and Diana Murrer (T. Patrick Foy); and her nephew H. Scott Murrer are among the people that are left behind after her passing (Cherie Marchio).
On the morning of Friday, May 6, 2022, at 10:30 a.m., a Christian burial service will be held at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church located at 120 Marydale Lane, Columbia, South Carolina 29210. The service will be presided over by the Reverend George Rosario, C.Ss.R., Parochial Vicar.
