Robert Couillou Death, Obituary – We are writing this with a heavy heart to inform you that Ted Couillou, a longstanding WLE Property Owner, has passed away. Theodore “Ted” Robert Couillou went away in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by family and friends whom he loved and who loved him. The 13th of October, 1941 found Dorothy McCloud Lunan and Charles Robinson Couillou welcoming their son Ted into the world in Queens, New York. Chris, Jamie, Althea, and Corinne were his surviving siblings after he passed away.
Ted has been married to Laurie for the past 34 years, and the couple has one daughter, Sara, who is married to Jon. The loss of Ted will be deeply felt by his four grandchildren, Jesse, Hoyt, Theo, and Mackenzie. Denise, Jacqueline, and Jeffrey Couillou were the three children of Ted Couillou who passed away before him. Ted spent 47 years working as a Custodial Engineer for the New York Board of Education in several schools located in Queens and Brooklyn. He was known for his compassionate management style, which included treating his staff members like members of his own family,
giving those employees opportunities that others were unwilling to take, and even assisting certain employees in becoming citizens. Ted was quite proud of his membership in the Custodian’s Union, Local 891 of the International Union of Operating Engineers. Over the years, Ted’s favorite activity was plowing snow with his Ford Bronco. Out of the goodness of his heart, he would plow the schools that were being maintained by other custodians, as well as churches, gas stations, and anyone else who was in need.
Ted and Laurie first crossed paths at one of the schools in Brooklyn where Ted worked. The couple cherished the time they got to spend together on the weekends at their lake house, which was located on Lake Wallenpaupack in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. They ended up retiring there in the end. One of their favorite things to do together as a group was to go out on the water with Sara and their other pals. Ted was on the Board of Directors of Wallenpaupack Lake Estates for an even longer period of time than the time he spent serving as President of the community.
Ted counted his 45 years of abstinence from alcohol and drugs as one of his proudest accomplishments. In addition to that, he was quite proud to show off the trophies that he had received for donating a total of almost 6 liters of blood to the Red Cross.
