Mike Blake Obituary, Death – Mike fought cancer for a whole year before finally succumbing to it and passing away in a peaceful manner on November 29, 2022, at the age of 66. Beloved husband of Janice (who was previously married to Leger) for the past 35 years. Father of Meagan Woodhouse (Tim), Christopher (Connor), and Natalie, who he adores (Tyler). Emma Woodhouse-Lamb held her beloved grandfather in high regard. Respected brother of Mary-Lou Colwell (Allen), Vicki (Cam), and Gerry (Donna). Respected and cherished uncle to a large number of nieces and nephews. His parents, Colleen and George Blake, passed away before he was born. Mike, who was born and raised in the Kitchener-Waterloo area, has been a passionate hockey player ever since he was five years old. It was with the Waterloo Siskins and the Guelph Platers (Biltmore) that he got his start as a goaltender. He then went on to play for Ohio State University (1977-1981).
Because of this, he was able to reach the pinnacle of his professional career and play for the Los Angeles Kings (1981-1984). Mike is infamous for allowing Wayne Gretzky to score his record-breaking 92nd goal in 1982, and as a result, his picture is displayed in the Hockey Hall of Fame. Following the conclusion of his hockey career, Mike transitioned into the field of radio sales. He spent the next 20 years working for CJOY, CHYM FM, and the FAN 590. After that, he and his brother Gerry owned a local business together under the name Don’s Produce. Mike maintained a physically active way of life. Cycling, playing softball, teeing off at Westmount Golf & Country Club, and going on fishing and golfing trips with friends like Mike Yosurack and Kenny Brown were some of his favorite things to do in his spare time.
Mike and his wife Janice were avid travelers, and they traveled all over the world to visit their children, who lived in places such as Banff, Ireland, New Zealand, and Boston. Meagan Blake (MBA, Human Resources), Dr. Christopher Blake (MD), and Dr. Natalie Blake Blake all went on to successful medical careers, and Mike was extremely proud of all three of his children and supportive of them in their endeavors (DC). Mike’s family, friends, and anyone else fortunate enough to have experienced his boundless generosity and unfailing good nature will feel a profound loss as a result of his passing. At the Erb & Good Family Funeral Home, which is located at 171 King Street South in Waterloo, visitation will be held on Monday, December 5, 2022 from 7 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.
On Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at 11 a.m., the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Louis RC Church, which is located at 53 Allen Street East in Waterloo. The Reverend Phil Reilly C.R. will preside over the ceremony. After the service, interment will take place at Parkview Cemetery in Waterloo. In the fellowship hall of the church, there will be a reception.
