Michael Manganiello Obituary, Death – On August 3, 2017, Michael A. Manganiello, who resided in Mt. Vernon, New York, as well as Stuart, Florida, passed away at home with his family by his side. He was 102 years old. Christine (Zibelli) Manganiello, his devoted wife of 74 years, is the only survivor of Michael Manganiello. He was the proud son of the late Michael Manganiello, Sr., and Giovanina (Zuzulo) Manganiello, and he served with honor in the United States Army during World War II. As a result of his service, he was awarded various medals and awards, including the Purple Heart.
He was awarded an athletic scholarship to attend New York University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History as well as a Master of Arts degree in Education. He was born and raised in Mt. Vernon, New York, and he was an all-county player in both baseball and basketball while he was in high school. Mike’s victory in the Alabama Open in golf, which took place when he was stationed in Selma, Alabama, is widely regarded as the pinnacle of his sporting career. Michael cherished the thrill of competition, and even at the age of 102, he continued to play bridge in tournaments.
Michael spent his whole life working as a teacher, both inside and outside of the classroom. After working as a teacher in the Mt. Vernon school system for many years, he eventually became the principal of Mt. Vernon High School, a position he held for many years. He coached the basketball team at Mt. Vernon High School and guided them to victory in the county championship when he was there. Michael devoted his life to his family and found the most joy in spending time with them, whether at home or participating in outdoor activities together.
He leaves behind his eldest child, Joanne Klein, and her current husband, Jeffrey Klein, as well as Joanne’s two sons, Christopher, his wife Kathleen, and their two children Charlie and Oliver, as well as Joanne’s youngest son, Andrew. In addition, he is survived by his wife Trina and their two daughters, Isabella and Olivia Manganiello, as well as his two sons, Michael A. Manganiello, M.D. and Richard J. Manganiello, M.D., all of whom are also physicians. In the midst of the Great Depression, Michael and his younger brother Johnnie were well taken care of by his older siblings, Mickey, Anthony, and John, as well as his sisters, Magdeline and Patricia, who have since passed away.
Michael was predeceased by all of these relatives. In spite of the fact that Johnnie was the youngest of his brothers, he was his most formidable rival in athletics. Michael said that his older brother Mickey was the one who sparked his passion in sports and kept it going throughout his childhood. His family would also like to remember and honor his older brother Tony, who passed away recently. Tony was the one who came to his aid in Germany while he was in the midst of the war and was in the greatest danger.
