Maureen Doherty Obituary, Death –  After a long and hard-fought battle with cancer, DOHERTY, Maureen Catherine of Melrose, Massachusetts, who was formerly from Somerville, Massachusetts, passed away on November 2 at the Life Care Center in Lynn, Massachusetts. She had previously called the city of Somerville in Massachusetts home. Her passing occurred while she was resting at the time. Her mother, Roberta (Jack), and father, John J. Doherty, both of Charlestown, as well as her sisters Patricia Preys of Somerville and Roberta Connors of Charlestown, all passed away before Maureen, who was 72 years old at the time of their passings. Roberta (Jack) Doherty and John J. Doherty were both born in Charlestown.

Roberta (Jack) Doherty and her brother John J. Doherty both hail from Charlestown, where they were both born. Her brothers John and his wife Cynthia, who live in Melrose, and Charles Jones, who live in New Hampshire, along with her sisters Anne Jones, who lives in New Mexico, and Deborah Tobin, who lives in Medford, will carry on her legacy after she has passed away. Her many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephew, as well as her many dear friends at the Steele House in Melrose, will miss her terribly. She will also be greatly missed by her colleagues at the Steele House. Additionally, her coworkers at the Steele House will miss her in a significant way.

The year 1967 was Maureen’s year to graduate from Somerville High School, and she did so with a diploma in hand. When she was a young girl, she and her sisters would go roller skating at the Bal-a-Roue in Medford on a weekly basis. This was one of their favorite family traditions. There were times when she and her sisters would stay there for hours. They counted this as one of the activities that they looked forward to doing the most. She eventually reached the pinnacle of her skating career when she won the Novice North American Dance Championship in the year 1979. This accomplishment came during her early years of competitive skating. This accomplishment took place in the earlier stages of her competitive skating career.
