Matthew Calderon Obituary, Death – In memory of Matthew Anthony Calderon, a junior at Texas A&M University from San Antonio who was majoring in electrical systems engineering technology and passed away on October 19, Silver Taps will be held on Tuesday, December 6 at 10:30 p.m. at the university. Attendance is required for the Silver Taps event, which will take place in person on the Academic Plaza. At 10:20 p.m., in remembrance of Calderon, the lights across campus will be turned off. In the plaza in front of the Academic Building, students, faculty, staff, and members of their families and friends will gather in silence. An honor guard from the Ross Volunteer Company will make a slow procession to the plaza at 10:30 p.m., and once there, its members will discharge three volleys of rifle fire.
At 10:30 p.m. on December 6, individuals who are unable to come in person will be able to see a special premiere of Silver Taps that will be televised by the Division of Student Affairs on its YouTube channel.
