Marissa Viola Obituary, Death – Viola A. Grossmann, who had been a resident of Smithton, Illinois previously and had been born on December 3, 1911 in Burksville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2004, at the Randolph County Care Center in Sparta, Illinois. Viola A. Grossmann was born in Burksville, Illinois, but had previously lived in Smithton. She had 92 years under her belt. Mrs. Grossmann was a mother who raised her children at home and a housewife. At one point in time, she was recognized as a member of the Smithton Sportsman Club Auxiliary as well as the Smithton Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Hilda Melchers, Pearl Melchers, and Mabel Bailey; a brother, Sinclair Melchers; a brother-in-law, George Bailey; and a sister-in-law, Helen Melchers. Her parents, William and Minnie, nee Dehn, Melchers; her husband, Walter G. “Mutz” Grossmann, whom she married on May 4, 1934; and who died on March 25, 1988; her husband

Her grandchildren are Cheri (Steve) Marlow, Linda (Tommy) Thompson, and Debbie (Randy) Gale, and she is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Kevin and Kyle Marlow, Michael, Mindy, and Malori Thompson, as well as Ashley and Eric Cathcart. Her children are Debbie (Randy) Gale, Cheri (Steve) Marlow, and Linda (Tommy) Thompson. The only member of the family to make it through life is Joyce Robert, who was wed to Kenneth Robert and resided in Marissa, Illinois. On Monday, July 12, 2004, from four in the afternoon until eight o’clock in the evening, guests are welcome to pay their respects at the George Renner & Sons Funeral Home in Smithton, Illinois.
