Lester Lynd Obituary, Death – On the afternoon of Wednesday, November 30, 2022, Lester passed away unexpectedly at his residence. He was the son of the late Arnold I. and Dorothea H (Reelhorn) Lynd and was born in Columbus on August 31, 1953. His parents have now passed away. He received his high school diploma from Northridge High School in 1971 and his associate’s degree in agriculture and horticulture from Michigan State University in 1973. When he got back, he started helping out on the family farm, Lynd’s Fruit, where they cultivated different kinds of fruit such apples, peaches, plums, and berries.

The family also launched The Market at Lynd’s Fruit Farm under his direction, and he was in charge of acquiring the necessary produce for that enterprise. He was a former member of Hosanna Lutheran Church, where he was active in the men’s golf league. He was also a member of the Pataskala Lions Club and coached soccer for a number of years. He was an active participant in the community of Pataskala. In addition to that, he spent a good deal of time serving as the scorekeeper for the Watkins Memorial girls’ basketball program. In addition to that, he enjoyed conversing and would go out of his way to strike up a discussion with other people. He had the unique ability to always be genuinely delighted to see other people.

In 2011, Lester was inducted into the Ohio Agriculture Hall of Fame after having served as president of the Ohio Fruit Growers Marketing Association. His loving family includes his wife, the former Marcia Ridenour, whom he married on November 8, 1975; his sons Brian (Amanda) Lynd and Scott Lynd; his grandchildren: Julia, Haylie, Jayden, Jack, Miranda, Jaxon, and Eppie; his brothers Mitchell (Penny) Lynd and David (Deborah) Lynd; and his sister Brenda Schostag along with a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son Chad Lynd. His parents also passed away before him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ohio Association of Food Banks, which can be found at 100 E. Broad St., Suite 501, Columbus, Ohio 43215. This is to support the organization’s efforts to reduce the prevalence of food insecurity in the state of Ohio. There will be a supply of envelopes available at the service.

On Monday, December 5, 2022, at seven o’clock in the evening, funeral services honoring the life of Lester K. Lynd, who resided in Pataskala and was 69 years old, will be conducted in the Grace Fellowship Church located at 1449 Refugee Rd in Pickerington. On Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., Lester will be laid to rest at the Kirkersville Cemetery, which will be the next step in the funeral and burial process. On Monday, the family will greet friends at the church beginning at three in the afternoon and continuing until the funeral services begin at seven in the evening.
