Ken Rees Death, Obituary – In the city of Hartford on January 24, 1957, Ken Rees was brought into the world by his parents, Kenneth and Joann (Gegenheimer) Rees. On Thursday, December 1, 2022, he died away in a calm and serene manner at his home in Muncie, surrounded by his devoted family. Ken is survived by his devoted wife of ten years, Jean (Mandabach) Rees, who provided excellent care for him throughout their marriage; step-sons, Gabe (Nikki) Goens, Nicholas (Rachel) Mandabach, and Joseph Mandabach; step-daughter, Anna (Lyndsey) Mettler; bonus daughters, Haylee Cargill and Taylor Randol; sister, Tammy (Jeff) Green; brothers, Cary His son, Derick J. Rees, his parents, Kenneth and Joann Rees, and his grandparents all passed away before him.
He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. The city of Hartford is where Ken was both born and reared. He was recognised for his exceptional service during the three years that he worked as a paper delivery boy. When Ken was 15 years old, he joined a Christian cycling group named DeCycles and became a member of the club. It took him and a group of 56 other young men six weeks to ride 10-speed bicycles from Hartford City to the Grand Canyon. Along the way, they set three world records, including the most number of miles ridden in a single day (well over 200 miles!) and the fastest speed coming down the mountain as they passed all the cars. The police were understandably upset about that particular incident.
The year after that, they rode their horses all the way to Niagara Falls and into Canada. They went to the wedding of one of their motorbike commanders while they were in Canada and attended the ceremony. They sang for the people wherever they went, even at the Grand Canyon, where they were the centre of everyone’s attention while they performed. During his formative years, Ken worked in a variety of different occupations. During the final 12 years of his professional life, he worked as a semi-truck driver for a number of different companies. Building model cars, working with wood, tending to his garden, and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughters, were among his favourite activities.
Ken was a devoted supporter of IU athletics as well as the Pacers and Colts. A memorial service will be held on the Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 3 o’clock in the afternoon at Sunnyside Church of God in New Castle. Prior to the service, there will be visitation from one to three in the afternoon. Ken asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospice, which was of great assistance to the family. 2401 W. University Ave., Muncie, Indiana 47303 is the location of the business.
