Josh Schlageter Obituary, Death – On October 12, 2012, Josh Schlageter lost his battle against an unanticipated illness and went away peacefully in the company of his family in the house that he had called home. He was the fourth child to be born to his parents, Andrew F. Schlageter and Grace F. Schlageter, and was born in Rochester, New York. His parents’ names are Andrew F. and Grace F. Schlageter. Rochester is where his parents first met and ultimately wed each other. After receiving his diploma from East High School, David continued his study at the University of Rochester. This was after he had already earned his diploma from East High School.
It was at that institution that he completed all of the prerequisites for both his undergraduate degree and his studies in medical school. During his time as an intern and a resident at the Genesee Hospital, David lay the groundwork for what would become a lengthy and devoted career with the institution. This is a job that would keep you in the hospital for quite some time. David was a Major in the United States Army Medical Corps during the time of the Vietnam War (1969–1971) He served his country at this time. During his time in the Army Medical Corps, he gave his entire life to the service of his country.
As recognition for his work as Company Commander and Battalion Surgeon, he was presented with the Army Commendation Medal, the Combat Medics Badge, and the Bronze Star. All three of these decorations are still in his possession today. After moving back to his hometown of Rochester, he continued his service in the local medical community by accepting the role of Medical Director for the Genesee Health Service, Rochester General Medical Groups, and the Episcopal Church Home. He also became a member of the Rochester General Medical Groups Board of Directors. After having previously served in this capacity for the Rochester General Medical Groups, he was promoted to his current role.
Before David was born, his maternal great-grandparents, Andrew F. Schlageter and Grace F. Schlageter, as well as his paternal great-grandparents, his parents, his brother and sister-in-law, Andrew Bruce Schlageter and Grace D. Schlageter, and his brother-in-law Richard E. Northrup all passed away. David’s parents were Andrew Bruce Schlageter and Grace D. Schlageter. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, M. Cristina Schlageter, three sons, David A. (Catherine), Mark A. (Katherine), and Joshua N. (Megan), five grandchildren: Andrew, Noel, Hope, Ella, and Gwenyth, two siblings J. Noel Schlageter (Grace C.) and Janice S. Northrup, and a large number of nieces and nephews. He was married to M. Cristina Schlag He was wed to M. Cristina Schlag for several years. The month of January was the one in which he went away.
