Jan Hooks Obituary, Death – We are saddened to inform you of the passing of Jan Hooks, a revered pioneer of Local 8888. Jan Hooks was a frontline participant in the organizing drive that brought the Steelworkers into the shipyard in 1978. She passed away recently, and we are sorry to inform you of her passing. We are informing you of the sad news that she has passed away. With the utmost anguish that our hearts are capable of holding, we are passing on the news that she has passed away.
Jan was courageous and put in a lot of hard work to develop a strong union for shipbuilders in Newport News. As a result, the shipbuilders now have a voice in their workplace. As a direct consequence of this development, they now possess a voice in the workplace. Please accept our sincere condolences on the loss of a loved one who was a part of the Hooks family and who passed away recently.
