James Carlyle Obituary, Death – On December 6, 2021, James M. “Jim” Carlyle passed away at the age of 90 years old. He was known by his nickname “Jim.” He was born on February 28, 1931 in Mineola, Texas, to parents Joe B. Carlyle and Polly Carlyle. He was the eldest son of the couple. He spent the majority of his life in the Texas town of Troup, which was also the location of his childhood home. He has gone through a number of different styles of headwear during the course of his life and career. A firefighter for more than 60 years, during which time he also worked as an EMT and a paramedic, a pilot in the Air Force, and a mayor of the city of Troup for the entirety of his term, he was the proprietor of Troup Lumber Lumber Company.
He also served as a firefighter for over 60 years. From the very beginning of his career, he was a trailblazer in his area, and he was instrumental in the founding of Allied Building Stores, which is now a company that has an annual revenue of one billion dollars. He took the most delight in the roles of spouse, father, grandparent, great grandfather, and friend, all of which he had successfully fulfilled. After he retired, he filled his time with activities such as woodworking and tinkering in his workshop, as well as volunteering at the First United Methodist Church in Troup, where he had been an active member for the entirety of his life. Before he did, his parents, his wife Dodo, his daughter Martha Ann, and her husband all went away.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. The only members of his immediate family to have survived his dying were his daughter Linda Draper and her husband Peter of Houston, his son Joe Carlyle and his wife Debbie of Troup, and his daughter Cathy Lippincott and her husband Rob of Austin. All three of these couples reside in Texas. In addition to having nine grandchildren, he is the grandfather of seven great-grandchildren. He has no children of his own.
Visitation was conducted at the Cottle Funeral Home in Troup on the evening of December 9, 2021 from 7:30 pm until 8:30 pm. A memorial service was held in the Troup First United Methodist Church on December 10, 2021, at eleven o’clock in the morning. Immediately following the memorial service, a service was held at the burial location.
During the funeral service, pallbearers included Drew Carlyle, Chris Dini, Wes Draper, Owen Draper, Jeremy Bolin, Brian Ellspermann, Andy Goff, and Josh Amador. Other pallbearers included Andy Goff and Josh Amador.
