Gerard Burke Obituary, Death – It has been brought to our attention that Gerry died away this afternoon at the St. Joseph’s Hospital located in the city of Kensington in the state of California. He was 88 After finishing his novitiate at St. Mary’s Towers in Douglas Park, Gerry joined the Order of the Holy Cross on August 5, 1953. Gerry received his education from Chevalier College, where he also served as a novice. We are commemorating 66 years of service in the professional as well as MSC ministries with this celebration.
When I think about the many decades that Gerry has spent serving as a member of the MSC, the words from the Gospel of St. John that say if everything that could be said about Jesus were to be written down, there would not be enough space in the entire world for the books to fit come to mind. This verse says that if everything that could be said about Jesus were to be written down, there would not be enough space in the world for the books.
Nevertheless, we shall make an effort, although a brief one. To begin, Gerry devoted a sizeable portion of his professional life to teaching in MSC schools, the majority of which were located in Monivae, Chevalier, and St. John’s in Darwin. In addition to this, he was known to have spent time at the Sacred Heart Monastery in Croydon when he was a younger man. That was just the beginning of our conversation with each other. During the many years that he resided in Darwin prior to his retirement to Chevalier just a few years ago, he worked as a prison chaplain, served on the faculty of St. John’s College, and volunteered his time to visit inmates in prison. In addition, he was a prison visitation volunteer. At addition to that, he worked as a chaplain in a prison. On the basis of the experience he gained while working in various environments, such as the hospital in Mackay, he attended and graduated from a Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) program in Canberra.
This allowed him to assist people who were suffering from various illnesses. In addition to that, he was a director at the Sydney location of the Encompass company. Participating in Chevalier 2022 along with other students from the MSC. In the most recent of these weeks, he went to the monastery that is located in Kensington.
