George Keaton Death, Obituary – We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Dr. George Keaton, Jr., the man who established Remembering Black Dallas, Inc. and served as the organization’s executive director. Dr. Keaton’s legacy will live on in the work of the organization. For a good number of years, we held the position of executive director for the organization Remembering Black Dallas, Inc. It is with a heavy heart that we have to tell you the news regarding this latest turn of events, but we are obligated to do so. He was a fantastic historian who put in a lot of hard work to ensure that many forgotten but important stories from African-American history in Dallas were brought to light.
Because of his efforts, the historical record of the city of Dallas is now more comprehensive than it was before. Because of the efforts that he put forth, these stories gained more notoriety and became more widely known. It was up to him to relay these tales to the general public, and it was his responsibility to do so. He was the one who was accountable for doing so. The most recent partnership between the OAC and Remembering Black Dallas, Inc. resulted in the simultaneous unveiling of a public art piece honoring Anderson Bonner and a Texas Historical Marker recognizing Bonner’s achievements in September 2022.
Both pieces were created as a result of the partnership between. The OAC and Remembering Black Dallas, Inc. worked together on the production of these two works, which are a direct result of the collaboration that took place between the two organizations.
