Johnny was the sole original member of 617 Squadron and of Operation Chastise, the operation that took place in 1943 and was known as the “Dambusters,” who was still alive at the time. “Dambusters” was the nickname given to those who participated in the operation. The people who took part in the operation were given the nickname “Dambusters” throughout the operation.
