Delbert V. Heithoff Death, Obituary – Delbert V. Heithoff passed away on November 30, 2022 at the age of 90 at his current residence in Norfolk, Nebraska. Prior to coming to Norfolk, Delbert V. Heithoff lived in Elgin, Nebraska. He had lived in Norfolk, Nebraska, since moving there in 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be performed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Elgin, Nebraska at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022. The service is scheduled to take place on the morning of the 9th. Both Father John Norman and Deacon Dennis Weihn will preside over the service as the officiants.
Following the burial service, the body will be transported to St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Elgin, Nebraska. There, it will be laid to rest with full military honors accorded by American Legion Post #229 of Elgin, Nebraska, and the Army Funeral Honor Guard. A Wake Service will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, immediately following the viewing that will take place in the church from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on that same day. Delbert Virgil Heithoff was born on August 16th, 1932 in the community of Elgin, which is located in the state of Nebraska. Rudy and Theresa (Venteicher) Heithoff were his parents, and he was their son. Delbert completed his formal education at St. Boniface Catholic School in Elgin, from where he and the other members of his graduating class obtained their diplomas in the year 1950.
Delbert enrolled in the Army in February 1953, immediately following his graduation from high school. He was a member of a Demolition Squad, and his duty stations were in the countries of Korea and Okinawa. It wasn’t until January of 1955 that he was finally awarded an honorable release from the military. On June 24, 1957, Delbert and Myra Lucille Schrad exchanged their vows in front of family and friends at St. John’s Catholic Church in Petersburg, Nebraska. On that particular day, the ceremony took place. Delbert’s marriage to this woman proved to be fruitful, as it resulted in the birth of six children for him.
Following the couple’s decision to purchase a farm in the Elgin region, Delbert devoted the next three decades of his life to farming, ranching, and the repair of gear heads on the property. Tragically, Myra was murdered in a car accident in the year 1982.
