Carl Sherman Death, Obituary – Carl James Sherman, age 86, passed away on November 27, 2022 at his home in Richland Township, Venango County, following a brief illness. Carl’s birthday is November 9th, 1936, and he was born in Salem Township. Carl Sherman was the son of Henry and Edith (Kline) Sherman, who both passed away before Carl was born. In 1954, Carl earned his high school diploma from Keystone, which was located in Knox. After that, he decided to join the United States Air Force and did his best to serve his country from 1954 until 1958. The wedding took place on November 23, 1960, between Carl and Nancy Jane Kerr. The pair had a happy marriage that lasted for 62 years. At home, Nancy manages to stay alive. Carl operated a dairy farm for a number of years until finally parting ways with his herd of cows in the year 1989. On the land that had been Carl’s farm in the past, the Stoney Meadows Golf Course was developed, owned, and is being managed by Carl with the assistance of his friends and family.
The golf course was open for business for thirty years before being shut down in 2020, upon the occasion of the owner’s retirement. He served as the Past Master of Edenburgh Lodge F.A.M. #550 and had been a member of the Scottish Rite and Shrine for the past 50 years. Friendly competition was always something that Carl appreciated. When he was younger, he was a baseball player for Ashland, and he participated in the old hay rake league. Bowling was one of his favorite sports, and he participated in a number of leagues and competitions in the area. Since he began playing golf in 1985, it has been the primary focus of his efforts up until recently, when he was no longer able to do so due to physical limitations. In addition to that, he looked forward to his regular card games with his pals at the Clarion County Rod and Gun Club every week. Carl is survived by his children Randall Sherman and his wife Paula of Emlenton, Edith Beckwith and her husband Dana of Emlenton, and Beth Saylor and her husband Mark of Sligo; his grandchildren Claire Saylor, Adam Saylor, Abbey Zerbe and her husband Shane, and John Beckwith; a brother Ben Sherman and his wife Beverly, a sister Ruth Crawford, and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition, Carl is survived by his wife Nancy, who passed away in Carl will be missed not only by his family but also by a large number of his close friends.
