Benny Burns Obituary, Death – Bernard “Benny” Vincent Burns, 68 years old, of Glen Carbon, Illinois, passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at Kindred South Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, with his wife and friend Pat by his side. Bernard “Benny” Vincent Burns was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Benny was the son of Vincent Bernard Burns and Marian C. (Bextermueller) Burns, both of whom predeceased him. He was born on February 3, 1953 in St. Charles, Missouri.

Six years after they first crossed paths, Benny wed the woman who would become the love of his life, Sharon K. Sterlin, in Glen Carbon, Illinois on July 31, 1982. After more than 39 years of loyal devotion to U.S. Steel, Benny decided to retire from the company. Following their retirement, Benny and Sharon purchased a home on Lake Norfolk in Arkansas and moved there. He spent his childhood summers at the lake, participating in activities such as fishing, water skiing, and camping.

It was undeniably one of the places that brought him the most joy. Benny cherished the time he got to spend with his good friends Charlie and Janice going to see new places or working on their various vehicles. In addition, he enjoyed going to the western states, where he went on four fantastic vacations with his good friends Stu and Fran, who worked at a dude ranch. His second passion in life was obviously working on or restoring vintage automobiles. He took great care in both his 1956 Chevrolet and the 1965 Mustang Fastback that he had repaired for his wife. Both the Okaw Valley Classic Chevy Club and the Looking Glass Corvette Club counted Benny among their ranks. Everyone who knew and loved Benny will grievously miss him after his passing.

Benny Burns’s brother William “Bill” Burns passed away before him, following in the footsteps of both of Benny’s parents. Benny is survived by his loving wife Sharon Burns of Glen Carbon, Illinois; his loving sisters Bonnie Burns of Edwardsville, Illinois and Elizabeth (Dale) Landolt of Pocahontas, Illinois; his brother-in-law James (JoAnn) Sterlin; and a large number of nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.
