Ava Thompson Obituary, Death – Tulia, Texas- On Thursday, June 30, 2022, Ava E. Thompson, who was 86 years old, passed away. On Friday, July 8, 2022, at 11:00 am, funeral services will be performed at the Central Church of Christ in Tulia, Texas, with Mr. Bob Colson serving as the presiding minister. After the service, burial will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery. Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia are in charge of making the necessary arrangements at this time.
Ava’s parents, Guy E. Waldroop and Mary Elizabeth Dieter Waldroop, welcomed her into the world on June 8, 1936 in Mangum, Oklahoma. She spent her childhood in Greer County, Oklahoma, working on a farm in the vicinity of Mangum. She used to have a pet pig and a pet hen when she was a little child, and they followed her about the farm everywhere she went. On the farm, she was unfortunate enough to be run over not once but twice, the first time by a manure spreader and the second time by a horse-drawn wagon carrying hay. She was the youngest of her five siblings, who included four brothers and three sisters.
On September 1, 1952, Ava tied the knot with Jack H. Thompson in Mangum, Oklahoma. They brought up four boys in Tulia, Texas, and almost made them all perfect. On September 1, 2022, Ava and Jack would have celebrated 70 years of marriage had they lived. Over the course of more than ten years, Ava and Jack were both active members of the Shirts and Skirts Club Square Dancing Club in Tulia and the settlements in the surrounding area. Jack and Ava chose to spend the rest of their lives in Tulia, where they retired and enjoyed spending time with their 19 grandkids, as well as their sons and their spouses, playing dominoes and the card game Rook, playing guitar, working puzzles, and spending time with friends and family. In her senior years, she became a devoted viewer of Jeopardy! and an ardent follower of the National Basketball Association (NBA).
A doting mother and wife, Ava was a wonderful person. She was a truly honorable, talented, and honest woman who was also a friend to everyone. She was the kind of mother I had always dreamed of having for everyone else. Love that never ends, the ability to excite others, ruthless honesty, encouragement, hard labor, a sense of humor, and excellent cooking skills. Her parents, her husband, Jack Thompson, six of her siblings, and her daughter-in-law, Ann Thompson, all passed away before she did. She is succeeded in death by Jack Thompson.
She is survived by her brother Raymond Waldroop and his wife Margie, as well as her 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. Her four sons, Mark of Tulia, Brent and Sally of Tulia, Kirk and Sherry of Meade, KS, Tracy and Ann of Amarillo, and Tracy and Ann of Meade, KS, are also among those who carry on her legacy.
